Signs you could be facing discrimination in the workplace

On Behalf of | Feb 12, 2019 | Workplace Discrimination |

It can be very difficult to spot workplace discrimination because the people perpetrating the discrimination might be hiding their true intentions. Every New Jersey workplace is required to be free from discrimination, including that of religious, sexual, age, disability and more. Today’s post will address the most common signs of workplace discrimination so you know what to look for the next time you are on the job.

Do you feel demeaned when spoken to at work? If so, you are likely being discriminated against on the job. Demeaning language is often thrown into every conversation, or most of them, when there is discrimination present in the workplace. This is often presented by employees being spoken down to, belittled or addressed harshly for no reason at all.

Have you been assigned tasks that are less than what you are worth? For example, the tasks you are assigned are for entry-level employees and you have been with the company for years. When a supervisor assigns tasks that are beneath your pay grade on purpose it can be retaliatory or discriminatory.

Are you meeting new coworkers regularly and quickly saying good bye to them? If so, a high turnover rate could be the biggest sign that discrimination is present in your workplace. A high rate of employee turnover can be indicative of a place where no one likes to work.

Workplace discrimination is a serious issue that could lead to legal recourse. You have a right to work in an environment that is welcoming and free from all types of discrimination. If you believe any of the signs discussed here are present in your workplace you should seek legal help immediately.
