Disability Harassment

Your disability, disease or medical condition may be temporary, long-term or permanent. Your impairment may have originated on the job or off the job, or you may have been born with the condition. No matter the nature of your handicap or disability, you have the right to be free of intimidation, hostility and abuse because of it. You also have the right to be free of workplace and educational harassment based on the fact that you’ve asked your employer or school to accommodate your disability.

If your employer or school permits or creates a hostile, intimidating or abusive working environment or educational environment based on actual or even perceived disability or handicap, such as making fun of your condition or the symptoms or effects, or threatening or denigrating you for needing or requesting accommodation, you have the right to make a claim under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination or in certain cases under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Dealing with a temporary or permanent physical or mental disability, handicap or learning challenge can be hard. It shouldn’t have to be harder because your co-workers or people in your school don’t respect the dignity with which you meet that challenge. If you’re exposed to this sort of ignorance, contact the South Jersey employment and education rights attorneys at Costello, Mains & Silverman, LLC. We can help.

Please call Costello, Mains & Silverman, LLC today at 866-944-3371 (toll-free) or contact us online to arrange a confidential consultation.
